In the era of artificial intelligence, computational thinking is considered an essential competency that individuals
should have. Unplugged activity, which are convenient to implement with low technical thresholds, are one of the main methods
for developing computational thinking in preschoolers. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study fully examines the effect of
unplugged activities on the computational thinking of children from two grades in kindergartens (middle classes and senior
classes) and the difference in effects based on their ages and genders. The results indicate that unplugged activities have a signifi?
cant effect on the development of children’s computational thinking, with the children from senior classes showing more notice?
able learning effects than those from middle classes, and although there is no significant difference between boys and girls in com?
putational thinking levels, certain behaviors in unplugged activities reflects some gender difference. These findings can provide
references for designing and implementing computational thinking education for preschoolers. |
