      Ye Shengtao, a famous educator, editor and publisher in China, compiled many Chinese textbooks and formed a scientific textbook view and a systematic and comprehensive editing thought of Chinese textbooks, which can be summarized as the children-centered editing concept, the selection criteria of good content and quality, the scientific unit arrangement, and serious editing style. In the new era that emphasizes the development of students’ key competency, Ye Shengtao’s thoughts of how to edit Chinese textbooks have the following important value and enlightenment: the textbooks used in primary and secondary schools should adhere to the “children-centered” concept; the selection of texts should focus on those of good content and quality with rich and practical writing styles, which are suitable for student learning; there should be scientific unit arrangement which emphasizes the cultivation of reading and writing competences; textbook editors need to have both education and editing knowledge and ability.
