“American science-fiction film” is a new concept that refers to some science-fiction films produced in the U.S. and are distinguished from most science-fiction films in general. Traditional science-fiction films tend to demonstrate a theme on ominous consequences of the development of science and technology, or cast some kinds of anxiety or reflection, while American science-fiction films tend to separate science and technology and the people who are using them, and criticize those people in power rather than development of science and technology itself. The emergence of this phenomenon might be connected to the American techno-optimism, pragmatic philosophy and the imperialism thoughts that seek for hegemony in international political relation. |
