      Based on the Portugal poet Luis de Camoens’ life story in Portugal, North Africa, Goa India and Macau and the background of European Catholic counter-reformation during the age of discovery in the 16th century, the paper elaborates his The Lusiads, the Portugal’s national epic about the voyages of Vasco de Gama, and its significance. The paper also explores humanism of the renaissance and the Portuguese discovery of the ocean route to the East as well.
