      The Housing Act of 1949 was one of the most important acts in America, initiating the urban renewal movement all around the country. The Act got support from the federal government, local governments and urban developers, and incorporated the urban renewal movement into three categories, including slum clearance and redevelopment, public housing and public-private cooperation. Although several housing acts had been passed, the basic mode of urban renewal established by the Housing Act of 1949 had not yet changed.
